A master plan for the McNab House and Botanical Gardens project in McNab Park will be unveiled during a virtual meeting hosted by the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) on Tuesday, May 4 at 6pm. Members of the community will have an opportunity to participate in the meeting and provide their input.

In March 2020, the Pompano Beach CRA relocated the historic McNab House and detached garage from 1736 E. Atlantic Boulevard to McNab Park, just five blocks east, with the vision of transforming the structures into a new restaurant facility and the surrounding park into a public botanical garden.

The interactive meeting on May 4 will be led by the architects of the McNab House and Botanical Gardens project, Bermello Ajamil & Partners (BA), who will present a conceptual design for the McNab Park site.

An initial community input meeting for the project was held via Zoom in December 2020, and BA used the feedback from that meeting to design a master plan of the park.

Elements of the master plan include a restaurant structure with a kitchen annex, a teahouse and garden café, outdoor courtyards and dining areas, a children’s garden with play structures, an event pavilion, water features with pools and a rock garden stream, a central lawn for passive activity and special events, a small performance plaza, an entry plaza, walkways and a footbridge, public restrooms and a learning classroom.

Pompano Beach CRA Director Nguyen Tran said the team at BA was able to design an “extraordinary” master plan for the McNab House and Botanical Gardens thanks to the tremendous input from the community.

“We look forward to sharing this vision during the upcoming meeting and to opening a dialogue about the next steps, which include the locations and themes for the gardens,” said Tran.

Anyone interested in viewing or participating in the virtual meeting must register by May 3 at 11:59pm via pompanobeachfl.gov/mcnab. Those who register will receive an e-mail from the Pompano Beach CRA the morning of May 4 with instructions on how to join the meeting using Zoom.

Attendees who access the live meeting on a computer or via the app will be able to submit questions through the chat message for the meeting moderator.

Following the May 4 meeting, all attendees will have one calendar week to submit questions and comments by e-mail to cra@copbfl.com.

The McNab House and Botanical Gardens project is a CRA project that will take place over several years.

The McNab House, built in 1926, was moved from its original location on Atlantic Boulevard after the McNab family sold the land for development.
