Good news seems to be in short supply these days but here is an uplifting local story that was picked-up by Fox News, the New York Post along with many other media outlets.

Lighthouse Point Police Department Officer Bob Stebbins saved the life of a wayward pooch earlier this month after it fell into a canal and was unable to paddle to safety.

Stebbins had responded to a “frantic caller” at around 10 PM on July 3. He arrived on the scene and quickly deduced that the pup’s leash was ensnared in the dock pilings. The dog had been reportedly treading water in the intracoastal for around 25 minutes. Stebbins quickly shed his gear and dove into the ink-black water.

The dog and the officer are reported to be in excellent condition.
