Jack Vaccaro has officially been pinned and sworn in by Mayor Kyle Van Buskirk and the Lighthouse Point City Commission as the City’s eighth Police Chief. On Jan. 9, a crowd of uniformed police officers, Vaccaro’s two daughters and wife, gathered at the City Commission meeting and Zoom to watch Vaccaro as he graciously accepted the promotion.

For roughly the past eight months, Vacarro has been serving as the Acting Police Chief after former chief Ross Licata moved to the position of city administrator following the passing of longtime city administrator John Lavisky.

Vaccaro began his law enforcement career with the Lighthouse Point Police Department more than three decades ago, in 1992. During his career, he served as a patrol officer, marine patrol officer, community policing officer, patrol sergeant, training sergeant, and lieutenant. He holds a B.S. in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University and is a graduate of the 249th session of the FBI National Academy and the Center for Advanced Criminal Justice Executive Leadership Program, and is an associate member of the Broward County Chiefs of Police Association.

“We have an all-star team at the police department. We really do,” said Vacarro after he was sworn in. “We talk about all of our successes and how well we’ve done — it’s because of all our men and women, our officers and dispatchers, our support services. They make me look good. They made Ross look good. I couldn’t be more excited to be able to continue to work alongside each of them.”

In the past 46 years, there have only been four city police chiefs. If Vaccaro continues in the tradition, he will be the city’s police chief for years to come.
