Migrants caught coming ashore in Pompano Beach

At least one dozen migrants were caught trying to reach the United States. The migrants allegedly travelled through the Hillsboro Inlet and into the intracoastal in Pompano Beach, Broward County, Florida where they were caught as they approached Riverside Drive in Pompano Beach, of all places.

The migrants swam once they approached the US shoreline and came ashore about 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday along  the 2600 block of Riverside Drive,  “When the vessel came ashore, the occupants fled on foot but were quickly apprehended,”according to BSO spokesperson Keyla Concepcion said.  The Sun-Sentinel reports a sheriff’s marine unit spotted their boat and alerted deputies on shore.  Read their full report by clicking here.  The Hillsboro Inlet is the point where Pompano Beach and Lighthouse Point meet.

WSVN, 7 News, reports, Twelve people have been taken into custody after a group of migrants came ashore near the Hillsborough Inlet in Pompano Beach.
