The Pompano Beach Music Under the Stars Concert Series attracts an interesting crowd.  Everyone from parents with kids to middle-aged partiers and mellow seniors come out to enjoy one of the fun things to do in Pompano Beach.

The concert event, which has been happening for over five years now, takes place on the second Friday of each month at the promenade at the end of East Atlantic Blvd. right before you hit the beach.

Music types vary each month with pop, classic rock, alternative rock, classic soul, country and other genres represented on a regular basis.  If you’ve never attended, you are missing one of the unique things to do in Pompano Beach.

This month the Whisky 6 band performed.  The band described themselves as playing “Bluegrass Rock n Roll.”  Which, when you think about it is just a fancy way of saying Country music.  Nonetheless, they did a fine job at covering mostly contemporary country with a few surprises thrown in.  In addition to playing the mandatory “Wagon Wheel” and several Zac Brown songs, they surprised the crowd with countrified versions of “Your Mama Don’t Dance” and “Johnny B. Goode”.  They also included some classic country including Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues”, which they creatively mashed-up with some riffs from The Who’s Tommy.

We took our camera to the event and got lots of interesting pictures of the cute, the strange, the sexy all having fun on a beautiful Pompano Beach summer evening. Look below to see what we saw.

The rock band, The Flyers are scheduled to play the next Pompano Beach Music Under the Stars concert on Friday September 13th at 7 pm.
