According to a press release issued today, the City of Pompano Beach will be hosting the official Grand Opening and Christening Ceremony of the Atlantic Blvd. Bridge improvement project in two weeks.…
Construction of the $5 Million renovation was funded by the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency (Pompano Beach CRA), and began in August of 2018 to provide “much needed enhancements” to the Atlantic Blvd Bridge.…
The press release continues, “One of the most interesting features of the improvements are two large … sails at … end of [each side of] the bridge [which are accompanied by a] computer-operated lighting system allowing the sails to change colors for special occasions. For example, [on] the Fourth of July [the sails would] be lit up red, white and blue. The idea behind the nautical sails is to continue the iconic theme of the illuminated sails featured on the City’s Beach Parking Garage.…
“[The] artwork underneath the bridge [will greet] boaters and sightseers alike as the new promenade underneath the bridge connects the north and south sides of Atlantic Boulevard leading to a viewing plaza on the Intracoastal Waterway [designed so pedestrians can walk under the bridge from the northwest to the southwest sides]. Design and construction enhancements were also made to the bridge tender house. “…
Pompano Beach Mayor Rex Hardin and City Commissioners will be on hand to inaugurate the lighting of the sails along with a celebratory christening that includes a champagne toast. Immediately following the conclusion of the ceremony, guests will be able to walk along the new bridge promenade to view the new artwork and meet artist Dennis Friel. Friel will be on hand for signing complimentary art replicas. Live music and refreshments will also be part of the evening’s festivities.…
There will be complimentary parking for the event at the Oceanside Parking Lot located at 100 N. Riverside Drive in Pompano Beach.…
