As the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) carries out its largest redevelopment activities to date, it has created a new logo that symbolizes its current plans and future goals.

The CRA’s new logo “is reflective of our future downtown redevelopment vision and the agency as a whole,” said CRA Project Coordinator Danielle Peruzzi.

The CRA’s downtown redevelopment plans call for the creation of a “dense urban downtown,” which includes an area designated as the “Innovation District.”

The CRA Board, which is comprised of the mayor and city commissioners, approved the adoption of the new CRA logo at its Sept. 17 meeting.

The Pompano Beach CRA was created by the City in 1989, and has two districts: the East CRA (about 158 acres) and the Northwest CRA (about 3,000 acres).

The bridge depicted in the new logo represents the unification of the two CRA districts. It evokes the Atlantic Boulevard Bridge, which is in the East CRA district, and the bridges that will be over a new waterway system in the future Innovation District, which lies within the Northwest CRA district.

The City and CRA are actively seeking a master developer for the Innovation District, which is bound by I-95 to the west, Dixie Highway to the east, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (NW Third Street) to the north, and Atlantic Boulevard to the south.

The master plan for the Innovation District and downtown could include a new city hall, 3,368 residential units, 420 hotel rooms, approximately 4 million square feet of commercial use (including restaurants and retail), and close to 3 million square feet of office space.

Redevelopment activities in the East CRA district include the beachside development project known as the Pompano Beach Fishing Village, next to the Pompano Beach Pier, and recently completed enhancements to the Atlantic Boulevard Bridge.

One resident who believes Pompano Beach is being overdeveloped told the Board: “I like the logo; I wish the buildings were lower.”

The buildings in the new logo represent growth and vibrancy throughout the CRA, not a particular height, according to Peruzzi.

Mayor Rex Hardin said the new logo was “fresh” and “upbeat,” and much more illustrative than the old one.

The new logo was created by an in-house graphic designer, with input from staff, and exists in three formats: color, gray scale and black and white. It replaces a logo created in 2009 that features a single green leaf as a symbol of growth. [See the new and old logo below]
