There’s a tweet on Twitter that says an unnamed Pompano Beach Liquor store is selling cases of water almost nine bucks.  IF YOU SEE ANY EXAMPLES OF PRICE GOUGING PLEASE E-MAIL us: jeff@pointpubs.com.  Send us a picture and the name/address of the business and we will be happy to publicly shame them.  Here is a link to the price gouging tweet.

Here is some additional information from the City of Pompano Beach:

To help residents protect their property against potential flooding from Hurricane Dorian, the City of Pompano Beach will be distributing sandbags beginning on Saturday, Aug. 31, at 9am, at 1660 NE 10th Street, across the street from the Pompano Beach Airpark.

The sandbags are free for Pompano Beach residents, with a limit of 10 bags per household. Proof of residency will be required. The sandbags will be distributed while supplies last.

To expedite sandbag distribution this year, the City now has a machine that will help automate the filling of the sandbags. The City decided to purchase the machine after Hurricane Irma struck Florida in September 2017.

Here is some additional information from the City of Deerfield Beach:

Sandbags for Deerfield Beach Residents

The City will be giving out sandbags to Deerfield Beach residents on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or as long as supplies last.

Pick up will take place at 210 Goolsby Boulevard,  Deerfield Beach.  Residents are asked to enter the facility northbound from Goolsby Boulevard.  Drivers will not be permitted to enter from the southbound approach to Goolsby Boulevard.  Please follow the established traffic pattern to ensure expedient service can be provided.

You must show the following: Photo ID, Proof of residency (such as a utility or phone bill).  Residents will be limited to 7 bags per household.

Parks & Recreation Facility Closures Due to Hurricane Dorian

The Department of Parks and Recreation would like to notify residents that all Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed starting Saturday, August 31, 2019, until further notice as City staff prepares for Hurricane Dorian. Staff will continue to monitor the storm and should anything change residents will be notified immediately. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Stay safe!

Deerfield Beach City Garbage and Recycling Collection Will Continue

The City of Deerfield Beach is actively monitoring Hurricane Dorian. Although the path is not yet clear, weather experts are predicting the possibility of a Category 4 Hurricane.  At the very least, the City expects to experience heavy rain and tropical-storm-force winds throughout the weekend into early next week.

All residential and commercial garbage and recycling collection will continue as normal until further notice. Operations will cease if sustained tropical storm force winds occur. The public will be notified.

Please adhere to all Collection Guidelines, and do not place excessive materials for bulk pickup. As normal, bulk materials that exceed seven cubic yards or do not fit within the City’s Guidelines will not be collected and may become projectiles in the occurrence of a storm. Residents should not use this time to complete landscaping work or other projects that will result in heavy bulk trash.

The City is urging residents to actively monitor the storm, and be sure to review their hurricane preparedness plan.

Here is some additional information from the City of Lighthouse Point:

LIGHTHOUSE POINT BOAT OWNERS

Aug. 30, 2:30pmSome residents have inquired about tying up their boats in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian landfall. Boats may not be tied up in any navigable waterway until the Broward County Flotilla Plan has been concluded.

The Flotilla Plan, if necessary, is dependent on an evacuation order. No evacuation order has been issued at this time.

If an evacuation order is given:

  • The Flotilla Plan will be started when a HURRICANE WATCH is established.
  • Boats that have a pre-determined safe harbor destination will be included in the flotilla.
  • Boats not requiring a bridge opening may move prior to the enactment of the flotilla plan.
  • The Flotilla ends 3.5 hours AFTER an evacuation order is issued. At that time, all bridges will be locked down.

PREPARATIONS ARE UNDERWAY IN LIGHTHOUSE POINT FOR POTENTIAL LANDFALL OF HURRICANE DORIAN

City officials are taking steps to secure Lighthouse Point in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian. The latest update from the National Hurricane Center has Dorian strengthening with the potential of nearing Category 4 strength as it makes landfall on Florida’s east coast this weekend. Florida is now under a state of emergency.

All Lighthouse Point city facilities and services are operating normally and will continue through Friday afternoon.

While the storm is still days away, and its path is uncertain, we are taking every action we can to prepare the City and keep our residents safe.

Residents should be aware that there is an 80% chance of tropical force winds, and a potential for hurricane force winds and heavy rainfall, which may lead to possible localized flooding.

Keeping all storm water drains clear will be a priority.

Normal scheduled waste collection will continue for household waste through your normally scheduled collection day. Waste collection pick up early next week may be altered depending on the effects of Hurricane Dorian. There will be no bulk or waste collection on Saturday or Sunday.

Following your normal waste collection pickup:

  • Do not place any bulk pickup out for collection. It will not be picked up. Doing so will put your property and that of your neighbors at risk.
  • Do not do any major yard work until after the storm passes.
  • Do not place any debris at the curb until the storm has cleared.
  • Keep in mind that large piles of new vegetation trimmings may clog storm drains.

By avoiding the placement of large piles of bulk material, yard waste and vegetation trimmings after your normal collection day, you will help keep storm drains clean to minimize flooding, and prevent flying debris to avoid unnecessary damage.

We urge all residents to make the necessary preparations now!

This is a good time to check your supplies, take precautions and review your hurricane plan. We encourage everyone to monitor the situation and stay informed.

The Police Department will be providing regular NIXLE emergency notifications before, during and after the storm, to keep you posted on important neighborhood information. Please encourage your friends and neighbors in Lighthouse Point to sign up now for NIXLE.

STAY SAFE!

Here’s some additional information from the town of Lauderdale By The Sea

Town preparing as Hurricane Dorian heads towards South Florida

Tropical Storm Dorian

The most up-to-date forecast information can be found on the National Hurricane Center website. The Town will continue to monitor the storm as it heads north. Should Hurricane Dorian threaten South Florida, please take what precautions are necessary to protect your family and property. Tropical Force or hurricane force winds are currently expected to arrive in our area on Sunday. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Town Hall at 954-640-4200.

The Town also recommends visiting the Broward County Hurricane Webpage for comprehensive information on how to prepare for a hurricane.

We also recommend signing up for Alert Broward.

A MESSAGE FROM TOWN MANAGER BILL VANCE

The Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea continues its preparations for the anticipated arrival of Hurricane Dorian, now a Category 4 storm.  Hurricanes are very dangerous, extremely expensive and inconvenient. If a Hurricane Warning is issued for Broward County, the National Hurricane Center and Broward County’s Mayor will order the evacuation of all Lauderdale-By-The-Sea residents, since our entire Town is located on a barrier island. Residents who ignore the mandatory order to evacuate are on their own during the storm. If you call 911 with an emergency, no one will respond, since all police, fire and EMS vehicles (and personnel) will be stationed at Holy Cross Hospital until the hurricane threat is over.

After the hurricane threat is over, the first order of business will be to eliminate any downed power lines that are still active. Until all post-hurricane electric dangers are eliminated by Florida Power & Light, our Broward County Sheriff’s Office personnel will not allow any pedestrian or vehicular access into the Town.

Our first priority is to make sure every street in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is open to police, fire and EMS  vehicles. The next concurrent step will be to do everything in the Town’s power to professionally influence/assist FP&L with the restoration of residential and commercial electrical services in Town.

After all Town streets are open, the Town will begin its routine post-hurricane debris removal efforts. To reduce the time it takes to dispose of hurricane-related debris, the Town has negotiated agreements with Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale to temporarily stage and process our debris.

Finally, please monitor Town Channel 78 on Comcast, Channel 99 on U-Verse, our Town website and Nextdoor. You can also sign up for Notify Me on the Town’s website to receive important text and email messages. If necessary, the Town will also send out a Town-wide CodeRED emergency call if a Hurricane Watch or Warning is issued for Broward County.

For general hurricane questions, call Town Hall at 954-640-4200.

Our Broward Sheriff’s Office non-emergency phone number is 954-764-4357.

911 is only for calls of an emergency nature involving life or limb.
