Top Five Restaurants to Pick Up Takeout in Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach

POMPANO BEACH & DEERFIELD BEACH RESTAURANTS: I know sometimes you don’t feel like cooking (or in my case, “sometimes” = never). There’s no shame in wanting to save a little time and still eat a delicious meal with your friends and family. If you’re like me though, delivery pizza just doesn’t sound very appetizing (or healthy). No fear! I am somewhat of a takeout connoisseur (shh…don’t tell). I have compiled my top five favorite spots to pick up takeout around Pompano Beach and Deerfield Beach. I tried to pick a variety of ethnic styles and flavors to keep it interesting. 1) Great Indian Grill | Pompano Beach
The Great Indian Grill is my go-to for dishes with incredibly bold flavors, a variety of vegetarian options, a kick to the face of spice and delicious, hot naan. Collectively, me and my friends have probably tried more than half of their entrees, checking off the menu like a culinary bucket list. The personable chef, Denson, has been a foodie and chef by profession for more than 16 years and has traveled the world. He knows how to develop flavors with depth.

For entrees our hand-down favorite is the Chicken Tikka Masala (we order it spicy — 7 out of 10) — a chicken dish served in a slightly creamy, tomato based sauce cooked with mild spices. For vegetarians, our favorites are the Baingan Bartha (a tAloo Gobi (b
The Great Indian Grill is located at 2695 E. Atlantic Blvd. (in the same complex as 26 Degree Brewing). The restaurant can be reached at 954-532-7872. The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11:30am to 3pm and from 5pm to 10pm.
2) Talay Thai | Pompano Beach
Talay Thai is a great place to dial when you’re driving home from work. Typically they only take about 10-20 minutes to prepare your order and every time I’ve ordered, its been fresh, hot and ready-to-go. I usually go with a curry — my favorite is their green curry, which I order spicy. If you want to get super daring, order it “thai spicy.” But beware, it will burn. The Red curry and Panang curry are also delicious. Get the Panang if you want the most rich of the three.
For noodle dishes, the Pad Thai and Pad see Mao noodles are tasty. And their basil sautéed dishes are flavorful. Or, you can get fresh sushi! Talay has a pretty extensive sushi menu. And they never forget to send you home with enough wasabi and soy (don’t you hate it when a place forgets the wasabi??). Talay’s bento boxes come with the best of both worlds — a little sampling of multiple things, such as tempura, sushi, a seaweed salad and hot entree of your choosing.
The staff at Talay has always been super nice and accommodating. And the restaurant has ample parking so you can pull up and be in and out quickly.
Talay Thai is located at 2233 E. Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach. If you are driving East on Atlantic, you can access the parking from behind the restaurant by turning left on NE 24th Ave, then cut across the back of the Bank of America parking lot. Talay can be reached at (954) 941-1123. Talay’s hours are Monday – Thursday from 11:30am to 10pm; Fridays from 11:30am to 10:30pm; Saturdays from 4 to 10:30pm & Sundays from 4 to 10pm.
3) Sicilian Oven | Lighthouse Point
Ok…so I know I already mentioned delivery pizza as being an often unappetizing choice…but Sicilian does not fit that category at all. This is NOT delivery pizza. These are hand-crafted, wood-fired, artisan pizzas with fresh mozzarella. For vegetarians out there, my two favorites are the Boss (classic fresh mozzarella with basil and tomato) or, if I’m feeling fancier, the Queen of Sicily (fresh mozzarella, vine ripened tomatoes, bite size pieces of fried eggplant, with basil, drizzled in a balsamic glaze). My meat-loving friends love the Corleone (Italian sausage, roasted mushrooms and basil with a spicy pomodoro sauce and a touch of white truffle oil) or the Calabrese (fresh mozzarella, pesto, grilled chicken & roasted peppers).
If you’re not feeling pizza, Sicilian Oven offers a ton of Italian classic pasta dishes (such as penne a la vodka, spaghetti with gargantuan meatballs and rigatoni bolognese). The Sicilian Oven salad is also famous (with candied walnuts, roasted red peppers, olives, vine ripened tomatoes, red onions, garbanzo beans, celery, shaved Parmesan cheese and homemade balsamic dressing). This salad could be a meal in itself.
Sicilian Oven is particularly great for takeout because they have drive-up takeout space — a server will come to your car window with the food and a portable credit card swiper. It doesn’t get more convenient than that!

4) Baja Cafe | Deerfield Beach
GIANT…GIANT Burritos. Need I say more? They have 13 different burritos to choose from. With fun names like the Satan’s Revenge burrito (with ground beef, chili and chili con queso); the Bandito Honey Bean Burrito (chicken brushed with Mexican honey tossed in with beans and corn); Cowboy Stake burrito (slow roasted steak with homemade mexican bbq sauce); and the Drunken burrito (named for a 1800 silver tequila tomatillo salsa), you’ll have fun just reading the menu.
So, you’re not a fan of burritos? There’s a ton of tacos, nachos, plates, enchiladas, fajita, salads, asadas and chimichangas, too. Try the Hellfire & Damnation Enchiladas (you won’t go to hell I promise) or the Voodoo Chicken (it might put you under its spell).
Just be prepared to be stuffed.
Baja Cafe is located at 1310 S. Federal Highway, Deerfield Beach. The restaurant can be reached at 954-596-1304. The hours are Monday through Thursday 11:30am to 10pm; Friday and Saturday 11:30am to 11pm; and Sundays from noon until 10pm.
5) Tropical Grill Island Cuisine | Deerfield Beach
This place will really get you out of any food boredom you might be experiencing. Its unique Caribbean and Jamaican flavors will wake you right up. There’s a variety of jerk options (including the Jerk Fest sampler, which includes jerked wings, meatballs and shrimp); a variety of Caribbean kabobs; seafood dishes (like snapper, coconut shrimp, a salmon kabob and a fried tilapia sandwich); Caribbean curries and stew. The restaurant home-makes their sauces and marinades. If you can handle spicy, don’t miss the scotch bonnet spicy sauce. It might make you tear up at first, but its worth it for the flavor and heat. The ingredients are fresh and colorful; the environment is bright and cheery. The owners pride themselves on using traditional Caribbean recipes.
Located just a block from the beach, this place would be a good spot to pickup some food and head to the sand for a sunset picnic! OR, go there LATE NIGHT. This is one of the few restaurants open past midnight on the weekend (open till 2am on Saturday and Sunday). Get some cold brews at Brews Room down the street, then some late night food to satisfy your drunken munchies.
While parking can be difficult near the beach, a public lot for the pier is located just across the street. You can pay by phone app, which makes the experience more convenient.
Tropical Grill Island Cuisine is located at 241 N. Ocean Dr. in Deerfield Beach. The restaurant can be reached at (754) 227-5055. The hours are Monday through Thursday from 10am to 10pm; Friday from 10am to 2am; Saturday from 11am to 2am; and Sunday from 11am to 10pm.
