HURRICANE DORIAN POMPANO BEACH DEERFIELD BEACH UPDATE: Monday, September 2, 2019. 11:00 PM. Broward County remains under a Tropical Storm Watch including Deerfield Beach, Pompano Beach, Lighthouse Point and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea. Currently Dorian continues to move incredibly slowly through the Bahamas, where it is holding at a Category 4 storm. Winds still exceed 130 mph. Forecasters expect the hurricane to veer to the north at some point on Tuesday.
Even with the expectation of the storm turning to the north, we still are far from being out of danger. The storm is very large and its outer bands will still hit our area. Boca Raton and north are under a Hurricane Watch. And, we needn’t remind you that the city just south of Boca is Deerfield Beach. Of course, Dorian does not have GPS and doesn’t cut itself off just because of a county line. Heavy rain, winds and flooding are still expected in the North Broward Coastal Communities It is likely we will start feeling some effects of the storm well into Tuesday and perhaps into Wednesday. Palm Beach County cities have already reported wind gusts exceeding 40 mph and Pompano Beach reported wind gusts of 33 mph. There also seems to be a fair amount of flooding in neighborhoods east of Federal Highway.
We are experiencing “King Tides”. These are higher than normal high tide levels unrelated to the hurricane. Combined with winds and rain from the storm, this will increase the likelihood of flooding. High tide in the North Broward area will be around 11:30.
It’s probably safe to say we avoided a big one but we still haven’t even begun to feel the effects that will be caused by Dorian.

WE REACHED OUT TO MULTIPLE PUBLIX CVS AND WALGREENS IN POMPANO BEACH DEERFIELD BEACH LIGHTHOUSE POINT AND LAUDERDALE BY THE SEA. ALL STORES EITHER CLOSED EARLY OR NO-ONE ANSWERED THE PHONE. MOST STORES WERE NOT PLANNING ON OPENING TUESDAY OR WERE UNSURE. THE PUBLIX ON E ATLANTIC BLVD IN POMPANO BEACH AND THE ONE IN VENETIAN ISLES IN LIGHTHOUSE POINT DO PLAN ON OPENING TUESDAY. CLICK HERE TO CHECK FOR PUBLIX STATUS UPDATES THE WALMART NEIGHBORHOOD MARKET AT 1199 S. FEDERAL HWY IN POMPANO BEACH HAS NO PLANS TO CLOSE, BUT THE WALMART SUPERCENTER AT 5001 N. FEDERAL HWY IN POMPANO BEACH, WHICH IS USUALLY OPEN 24/7, CLOSED EARLY ON MONDAY.

Here is some additional information from the City of Pompano Beach:
Based on the current forecast for Hurricane Dorian, the City of Pompano Beach’s normal City operations will be closed tomorrow Tuesday, September 3rd.
City of Pompano Beach Solid Waste Services All solid waste services have been suspended for Monday. A decision will be made on Monday afternoon pertaining to Tuesday operations.
Hurricane Parking Grace Period
The Pier Garage will be available for parking of passenger vehicles, 1/4 ton pickups, and other vehicle types as determined by the City Manager of his designee during the hurricane. In anticipation of tropical storm-force winds, the City of Pompano Beach has suspended fees in the Pier Parking Garage and are allowing the public to park their vehicles free of charge up to 24 hours after the weather event.
Residents, non-residents and businesses of the city may utilize the garage for parking on floors 2 to 4 for the storage of their vehicle during the period of the hurricane, including one-day before and one-day following the event or as determined by the City Manager or his designee.
There will be no charge during the time the garage is utilized for parking. However, signs will be posted that declare that parking is at the owner’s risk, that access may be limited to the vehicle, post event, because of storm debris or flooding for entering or exiting the garage. The city is not liable for any damage from theft, vandalism, storms, wind, flying debris or acts of God.

The City of Deerfield Beach’s transportation services will be resuming community bus shuttle service
The City of Deerfield Beach’s transportation services will be resuming community bus shuttle services, Deerfield Beach Express (DBE) I & II, beginning at 12 noon through 4 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
Solid Waste, Recycling, and Bulk Collection Services
Transfer stations will remain closed on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. Therefore, garbage, recycling, and bulk services will remain suspended tomorrow. Crews will resume pick-up as soon as the transfer stations open and a modified collection schedule for the remainder of the week will be provided to all businesses and residents.
Emergency Response
The City of Deerfield Beach, including Fire Rescue and Law Enforcement, are prepared to address any emergencies while we continue to experience tropical storm force winds. However, if sustained winds reach 50 mph emergency response will be suspended.
Should residents experience any non-emergency conditions including localized flooding, down traffic lights or poles, wastewater issues, unsafe debris, or any other storm related issues call the overnight City emergency hotline at 954-480-4370. When in doubt call 911.
REGULAR CITY OPERATIONS UPDATE
The City of Deerfield Beach would like to notify residents that all City operations are scheduled to resume as normal on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 (reported 9/29- no update since then). Transportation for Senior Services will resume Tuesday.
The Regular City Commission Meeting, including the Millage and Budget Hearing scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, 2019 has been CANCELLED. The meeting will be rescheduled and properly posted at later date.
PARKS & RECREATION FACILITY CLOSURES DUE TO HURRICANE DORIAN
The Department of Parks and Recreation would like to notify residents that all Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed , until further notice. Staff will continue to monitor the storm and should anything change residents will be notified immediately.
The city is anticipating tropical force storm winds, storm surge, and localized flooding. The DFB EOC is activated and prepared to respond to these conditions.
Here is some additional information from the City of Lighthouse Point:
THERE WILL BE NO BULK PICK-UP FROM SATURDAY, AUGUST 31ST TO FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH.
There will be no trash or bulk pickup in Lighthouse Point on Monday, Sept. 2 or Tuesday, Sept. 3 (DO NOT place trash at the roadside on these days). Doing so may cause storm drains to get blocked up and cause unnecessary flooding in our area. After the storm, remember not to place piles of debris in the roadway. This creates a very dangerous traffic hazard.
Remember, the Police Department will continue to provide regular NIXLE emergency notifications throughout Hurricane Dorian’s progress in S. Florida. The Lauderdale-By-The-Sea Town Hall will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Monday’s regular trash pick-up has been cancelled! The make-up day for Monday’s missed pick-up is Thursday!
Tuesday’s trash pick-up is still scheduled and has NOT been cancelled.

Wells Fargo branches closed through Tuesday in the northeast area of Broward County.
Port Everglades is closed until further notice, by order of the U.S. Coast Guard. Cruise passengers should contact their cruise lines and airlines for further information about upcoming travel.
Broward County Transit- There will be no fixed-route or Paratransit bus service on Monday, September 2nd.
BCT’s paratransit service is a shared-ride for persons with physical, cognitive, emotional, visual, or other disabilities which functionally prevent them from using the BCT fixed-route bus system permanently, temporarily or under certain conditions.
BROWARD COUNTY HAS OPENED 3 GENERAL POPULATION SHELTERS, INCLUDING 1 PET-FRIENDLY SHELTER.
