LHP CHAMBER’S ‘SHOP THE POINT’ GAINS SUPPORT!

Stresses importance of aiding local economy

Forget Black Friday and Buy Nothing Day. More obvious every year is that supporting our own small businesses and our own Main Streets have become critically important. See the growing empty stores? It’s no secret.

Lighthouse Point Chamber’s new Shop the Point initiative (see page 40), started in November at the Shoppes at Beacon Light, is just a small example of what can be done to excite and motivate our residents to do their shopping locally, as much as possible.

Yes, shopping locally does make more cents for our community and will create more jobs. Look for our two new taglines to appear throughout our magazine:

SHOPPING LOCALLY MAKES MORE CENTS!

SHOPPING LOCALLY CREATES MORE JOBS!

This does not mean completely walling off the outside world, but think how much it will mean by nurturing locally owned businesses that use local resources sustainably, employ local workers at decent wages, and primarily serve local consumers.

This will mean we’ll all have the opportunity to become more self-sufficient and less dependent on imports, and more importantly, become less beholden to the People’s Republic of China!

Other initiatives, such as starting a Small Business Saturday as a way to get the community to buy locally at unbeatable prices, may be also worth a try.

Getting to know and trust your local retailer personally can have many rewards. New stores will open, new jobs will be created, and a whole new feel to the entire community will spring forth.

Before you begin your computer search for your next purchase, please think seriously about the wonderful community you live in, and what you can do to make it even better!

Thank you, LHP Chamber, for your exciting Shop the Point program. The idea is catching on like wildfire!
