Social Media Awareness Program

Lighthouse Christian School

2331 NE 26th Avenue in Pompano Beach

Tuesday Oct 22 6:30 to 8:00pm

Research shows that many parents do not know what their children are doing online and are not aware of laws, methods to monitor their children in cyberspace, how to put parental controls on devices, let alone, what to do if they suspect bullying.  Over 80 percent of teens use a cell phone regularly and about 52% of young people have experienced cyber-bullying in some form.  95 percent of teens who witness cyberbullying on social media sites ignore the behavior.

In an effort to educate students and parents about this growing problem, Lighthouse Christian School is bringing Susan Wind, a well-known college professor and expert in cyber bullying to their school. Professor Wind will be conducting workshops during the day for students and will be conducting a seminar for parents from 6:30pm to 8:00Ppm in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church (Pink Church) at 2331 NE 26th Avenue in Pompano Beach.

Rita O’Leary the school principal commented “Susan Wind’s program kNOwmore has proven to be a great way for students and parents to learn more about the potential problems with social media and cyberbullying.  She provides good advice on how to avoid a problem.”

The school and its Parent Teacher League are encouraging parents from the community to join the evening session to learn about things they can do to protect their children.
