BROWARD COUNTY PHASED RE-OPENING: The Broward County Commission will hold a special workshop on Tuesday, May 12, beginning at 11am, to discuss the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the Broward County phased reopening of businesses and amenities.
The workshop will be held at the Governmental Center at 115 S. Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, but only County Commissioners and employees required to attend can physically be present, to avoid the risk of additional community spread of COVID-19.
Members of the public will be able to view the workshop live via webcast on Broward.org. The meeting will also be streamed live on Broward County’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube social media channels. No public participation will be allowed and no formal votes will be taken at the workshop.
Meanwhile, Broward Mayor Dale V.C. Holness held a teleconference on Monday afternoon with city mayors in Broward County, according to a news release. The discussion focused on the Phase One reopening, and the results of the Broward County Phase One Survey sent to municipal representatives. Other topics to be discussed included the reopening of Broward County beaches and antibody blood testing.
The majority of mayors said they support a phased reopening of restaurants, retail, hair salons, barber shops, nail salons, drive-in theaters and gyms inside housing developments, all with strict safety protocols. The target date is May 18.
On Monday, Palm Beach County began a Phase One reopening, which according to state guidelines, includes restaurants, retail, hair and nail salons, with social-distancing and sanitation rules in place. It also allows elective surgeries to take place at hospitals.
Beaches in Palm Beach County will reopen on May 18, with restrictions.
Miami-Dade County plans to allow some businesses to reopen on May 18.
