At our office, we take lunch seriously. Second only to scouring our community for breaking news stories, determining where to go for lunch is probably our most essential question of the day. Through an abundance of exploration, we have discovered dozens of Pompano Beach restaurants, Deerfield Beach restaurants and Lighthouse Point restaurants worth trying. Take an hour break, get adventurous and consult this new series of articles for ideas. The OUT TO LUNCH series will regularly bring you lists of delicious restaurants to try for lunch. This is the third article in the series.

This week, we suggest ….

Gianni’s

This trattoria has been a Pompano Beach stapel for the last 30 years and may just be better than mom’s cooking (no offence to mom). Located in a stand-alone building just off of Atlantic Blvd., Gianni’s offers all things Italian with a modern twist. Start off with baskets of oily and flavorful garlic rolls and continue down a culinary experience like no other. The salads and soups make excellent starters — we recommend the classic Caesar salad. The pasta is homemade and topped with fresh and delicious sauces. For diners with a large stomach ready for Italian cuisine, this is the spot for you.

PROS:

  • Large menu with a variety of pasta and meat dishes
  • Daily specials on weekdays
  • Large servings
  • Full wine list

CONS:

  • Limited parking

Gianni’s is located at 1601 E Atlantic Blvd in Pompano Beach. This Pompano Beach trattoria is open from 11am – 2:30 pm for lunch and 4:30 – 9:30 for dinner on weekdays; 4pm – 9:30pm on Saturday; 4pm – 9:30pm on Sunday. For more information or to make a reservation, call 954-942-1733.

Gorilla Joe’s Public House

Tucked away in a strip mall off of Atlantic Blvd., Gorilla Joe’s Public House has been serving up modern, American dishes to Pompano Beach lunch-goers. From crisp salads, hot paninis and — more the more adventurous eaters — fresh ceviche, Gorilla Joe’s offers something a little bit different from your average American restaurant. For groups of diners willing to share, we recommend the customizable meat and cheese boards that include everything from savory prosciutto de parma to juicy olives.

PROS:

  • Offers fresh coffee, beer, and wine
  • Large variety of pressed sandwiches
  • Casual and friendly environment

CONS:

  • Limited seating

Charm City Burger Company

Located in a stripmall in Deerfield Beach, this burger join has been sizzling and grilling up a plethora of burgers, sandwiches, and sides for Deerfield Beach residents. From The Good ‘Ole — a classic American cheeseburger — to El Diablo — a spicy chicken sandwich with pickled jalapeños — Charm City offers up a delicious meal for all sandwich fans alike. For those who want a true American burger experience, pair your sandwich with a fresh and creamy milkshake and a side of beer-battered onion rings. You won’t regret it!

PROS:

  • Relaxed and friendly atmosphere
  • Fun and colorful interior
  • Offers Wagyu beef burgers

CONS:

  • Restaurant fills up quickly
  • Not for people who are on a diet

Charm City Burger Company is located at 1136 E Hillsboro Blvd. in Deerfield Beach, This Deerfield Beach burger join is open from 11am – 11pm Sunday – Thursday.; 11am – 12am Friday and Saturday. For more information, call 954-531-0300

Casa Maya Grill

This traditional Mexican restaurant is tucked away in The Cove Shopping Center right off of Hillsboro Blvd. Serving sizzling fajitas, fresh ceviche and crunchy tacos, Casa Maya offers delicious food with a hint of spice and flair. We recommend the pibil burritos — slow-roasted pork with melted cheese and pickled red onions — if you want to get away from the classic quesadillas (no offense to the quesadilla-lovers out there). For those with a sweet tooth, Casa Maya offers creamy vanilla flan and a sweet and refreshing guava cheesecake. And, try their house-made tequila drinks if you really want to relax on your lunch break.

PROS:

  • Full mixed drink menu
  • Authentic Mexican cuisine
  • Daily lunch special
  • Friendly and attentive staff
  • Large portions

CONS:

  • Can be pricey

Casa Maya Grill is located in The Cove Shopping Center at 301 SE 15th Terrace in Deerfield Beach. This Deerfield Beach eatery is open from 11:30am – 10pm on weekdays; noon – 10pm on the weekend. For more information, call 954-570-6101.
