The Isle Casino property would be renamed Live! Resorts Pompano.  The redevelopment plan includes a casino, the Live! Event venue, a commercial sports venue, restaurants, a hotel, a driving range called Topgolf, a lake, open green space and 300,000 square feet of additional commercial uses such as retail, restaurants and a movie theater.   It is co-owned by Eldorado Resorts and Cordish Companies.

The  Live! branding is in conjunction with the Live! entertainment destinations brand owned by Cordish Companies., which includes some high profile sports and entertainment destinations across the country, such as Texas Live!, Xfinity Live!, Kansas City Live! and Fox Sports Midwest Live!

David Cordish, Chairman of The Cordish Companies spoke at public meeting in April and said groundbreaking is expected in the summer of 2020. Cordish added the site will be developed in stages, with the buildout taking at least 10 yearsIn addition to new development going up on the site, the existing casino will be renovated and expanded.

This morning Pompano Beach’s Development Review Committee reviewed a “Land Use Plan Text Amendment” in order to change the entitlements to add residential units and adjust nonresidential square footages. The applicant requested approval of a total density increase from the plat amendments, which would add 764,478 square feet of commercial space, 1.31 million square feet of commercial recreation uses, 951,350 square feet of office space, 1,300 residential units and 250 hotel rooms to what’s currently permitted. The underlying land use will remain RAC (Regional Activity Center). The property is a 221.6-acre site at 777 Isle of Capri Circle. Committee members commented at the meeting. Those comments will be applied to the application and re-submitted at a subsequent City meeting.

The developers currently have a pending rezoning application, which details how the project would be developed in phases. The first phase of the site plan shows the Topgolf, which would be the first driving range/entertainment destination in Broward County. Then, the area that currently is a race track would be converted into a lake and open green space. A 300-seat Jai Alai venue would replace horse racing. For those unfamiliar with Jai Alai, it is a sport native to Spain involving a ball bounced off a walled space by accelerating it to high speeds (up to 188mph) with a curved mitt called a cesta. Additional phases would build out the remaining elements to the project.

Eldorado acquired the property through the purchase of 13 casino resorts from Capri Casinos in 2016 and entered into a partnership with Cordish in 2018. The developers are working with planning firm Keith & Associates on the application. Attorney Debbie Orshefsky represents the developers. Elkus Manfredi is the architect.
